Sisterling also had a birthday this month, and her cake demand of “peanut butter” was as loud as it’s ever been. So she got this cake. I took the extra step of adding crushed Reese’s to the icing(it was a great idea, it deserved repeating). This cake is amazing. Even Wifey, who’s no fan of peanut butter, said it’s one of the better ones she’s had. Delicious and moist, this Peanut Butter cake gets an A+.

So this is Vengelet’s best friend, A-V:

(That was last Halloween. This year they’ll be going as Link and Zelda.)

A-V is two months older than Vengelet, and her birthday was a few weeks ago, so she got a Minnie Mouse cake(that’s her favorite).

This was the first cake I’d done entirely and stars, and let me tell you those suckers will cramp up your hand like nobody’s business. I’m pretty pleased with how this turned out, even though the stars aren’t as tight as I’d like. You can still see the crumb coat at some places, but I was running out of icing and time, so it ended up like this. Honestly, the longest part of this cake was trying to get that bow the right shade of pink. Coloring fondant is the WOOOOOORSSSTTTT!!!! The cake ended up being delicious. I used my standard dark chocolate recipe, but put peanut butter chips in the cake, and crushed Reese’s in the icing, and it ended up being AMAZING. A fun time was had by all at the party, even if Wifey and I got sunburned. I’ve got a couple other things to share, I’ll try to get them out today.

So, Prince-in-Law’s birthday was a while back, and he demanded german chocolate cake. So I made him this. It does not look pretty. To quote a co-worker, “Who threw up on your cake?” I was pressed for time, so it doesn’t look as great as I had hoped. Prince liked it though, so that’s all that mattered. B for German Chocolate cake(America’s Test Kitchen recipe)

I can finally upload pictures from work! So I’ve got a whole backlog to go through, so be prepared for a photo dump. I’ve got the NCACS this weekend, and I’m not NEARLY ready for it. BUT, here is at least part of the cake that I’ll be submitting. It’s not quite done, I have to fix the border, but you get the gist(it’s a Thwomp). Last year at this time, I had made a much smaller Thwomp for my piece, but then Vengelet infected me with something horrible and I couldn’t finish my entry. Let’s hope this year is better.

*Not all my cakes are Thwomp-themed, I promise.

** If I can pull this off, it’s going to be AWESOME.

More coming! Stay tuned!

I’ve got those on the list. I’m glad to hear you say Frostmourne, though. I have no clue about WoW, but it sounded like the Frostmourne was a big deal.

I said no guns, you sneaky Lady! We actually had a short list of guns, including the Portal Gun, Lancer, Gravity Gun and BFG, but decided to scrap them overall

Pokeball is on the list. Are the others specific?

Thanks for the input all!

Blooper cake!

Today’s kind of a bummer of a day. The weather is being super dreary. Work is really slow before the holiday, and will be even slower tomorrow. Co-worker across the aisle WILL NOT STOP TALKING. So what can you do to take your mind off it? EFFING’ BAKE. Granted, this was made on Sunday, as part of Best Man Michael’s and my Cake-Party, but I’m still proud of it, and because it was so big it’s still being eaten in the break room. Only one guy in the office got the reference, but that’s enough.

Things I’m proud of:

  • Flavor - Lemon cake with raspberry icing. Got several compliments.
  • Fondant work- I felt much more confident this go-round. I also recommend The Mat as an awesome fondant application tool.
  • The Eyes - Made with my wedding ring as a cut out.
  • The Outline- BMM’s Idea, makes the cake pop a bit more. It also hides some poor knife-work.

Not-So-Goody-Things

  • Asymmetry-It KILLS me on this cake. The left side turned out EXACTLY how I wanted it, and the right side looks kind of melty.
  • The Black fondant. It may not show up on the picture well, but you can see the black fondant of his eyes extending under the white. Should have cut that better.
  • His Badge - I used the wrong side of The Mat And it’s logo imprinted on the fondant. If you look closely where his heart would be(if squid’s hearts were where people hearts are), you can see it, it looks like a name tag. I should have redone that.

But all in all, I’m proud of it. I’ve been on a Mario kick lately because A). Mario is awesome and recognizable in the nerd crowd, B). Mario cakes are EASY. But, I think I need to branch out of my comfort zone a little bit. I’ve got some ideas. We’ll see what happens.

Also, I made a cake for Best Man Michael’s Sister’s coworker. I had to alter my normal buttercream recipe for chocolate. (Side note: I cannot type “chocolate” correctly the first time, no matter what). It turned out really fudgey. Next time, I’d add some more liquid to get it smoother, but as it was, it tasted delicious. I ran out of butter for the buttercream and had to exhaust all of my frosting reserves(I never thought that day would come). This turned out well! I especially like the color.
