I owe you guys several things. I’ve been back to baking almost full-steam for the last 3 weeks or so, and have racked up about 4 or 5 things to share. But this was last night’s effort. Best Man Michael and I felt we needed to do weekly cake’s to practice our skills, so he came over last night. I wanted to work on fondant, so I made this 1-Up mushroom cake(my choice based entirely on what colors of fondant I had). BMM is on the Paleo-diet, where you just eat things that were around in the Paleolithic? I think that’s how it works. So he made a Paleo-cake. I’m pretty pleased with this cake. The roughest parts are what I would term his “sideburns” where things got a bit wrinkly. BMM had to keep reminding me that I had tools to use, and to just use my offset spatula for EVERYTHING. Because I tried to. The cake itself is my my favorite recipe of chocolate chocolate-chip cake. While being delicious and moist, it doesn’t lend itself overmuch to sculpting, as the chocolate chips get in the way of cutting. So I’d probably remove them from next time. I’m running low on supplies, so I will probably make a run to our local cake supply place this weekend. I’ll see if I can get some pictures of my other goodies up later on today.
