We made it. We made it through a whole year of being parents and not screwing up irrevocably. Vengelet made it a while year without accomplishing her goal of eating a cat or falling down the stairs. The cats made it a whole year of not being eaten. We had her birthday party this weekend, and she was absolutely fantastic. She got (too) many new toys, a few books, an outfit, and a personalized her-size arm chair, which is now her favorite spot in the whole house. The cats like to sit in it too, as it was the only seat in the house NOT covered in cat hair. She also got to play around in her kiddy pool for the first time, which she loved, then pooped in, then get her naked butt housed off on the back porch(you’re welcome, future-Vengelet-who-read-her-father’s-old-blog, the internet is forever, sweetie). Good times were had by all.
Also, there was this cake. Wifey and I decided we’d switch off years playing primary and support roles for Vengelet’s birthday cakes. Wifey got this year, and decided to go with this brightly-colored animal motif. It’s super adorable. Wifey is good at picking colors, me not so much. She made the cake and the buttercream, and decorated most of it by herself(I did the shell border and the lion). There are TEN sticks of butter in that buttercream. Just so you know. Wifey is trying to give you a vicarious heart attack. The cake was good, and Vengelet loved it(her name is redacted on the cake so that you don’t discover her secret identity and try to get to her through her loved ones - like her chair).
Side note: I don’t endorse a lot of Wilton products, even though that’s mostly what you find in craft stores, but I can not say enough good things about Wilton’s candy-eyes. Look how hilarious those are! They are like edible googly-eyes!
All in all, a fantastic weekend. Happy Birthday, Vengelet, we love you.
