Now Playing Tracks

I just started my cake sculpting class with Best Man Michael and Sisterling. Our first project was a high top sneaker. That wasn’t enough for me. I’m always willing to take it that extra step and make it look like some obscure reference that makes most of the people who see it go “Oh, that looks nice, but what’s it supposed to be?” And you try to explain the one episode of that TV show that references your inspiration and the people smile and nod, and keep walking. But then that ONE GUY, he gets it, and he’s like, “DUDE. Awesome Goomba Shoe Cake”.
Sisterling and I grew up with an NES. Our favorite game that we played together was Super Mario Bros Three. We’d always make a bee line to world five, and then we’d argue over who got to play the level with the Goomba Shoe. I still remember that, and it’s a fond memory I have with Sisterling. So, Goomba Shoe Cake.

You remember this guy.
ANYWAY, I didn’t get to finish. That’s not the sad part, no one got to finish. The sad part is the shoe collapsed before I got it home.  The cake had a bit of a lean going into the class, which only got more pronounced the more fondant went on it. When the goomba head went on(also made of fondant), things got precarious. The plan was to take it home and finish the cake there, but once it got wrapped up and was being walked out, the top started to tear itself away from the bottom. You can see the support rod poking through the black surface. But no biggie. I was pleased how it came out, even if I didn’t get to finish.
